About This Site
Welcome to the Government of Northwest Territories Geospatial Portal.
This site provides access to the GNWT Spatial Data Warehouse of
geographic data of the NWT. The purpose of the GNWT Spatial Data Warehouse
is to provide access to NWT data in one convenient location for the GNWT and public.
Use the links on the left to navigate the site.
The Search all the data in the site link will open the Metadata Explorer which you can use to find the data you need.
The Create Web Maps link will open the Internet Map Framework pages to view online dynamic maps. This site requires its own login so you may need to create an account there.
The NWT Centre for Geomatics runs the GNWT Spatial Data Warehouse under the direction of the
GNWT Interdepartmental Geomatics Steering Committee.

It is a service funded by the Departments of Education, Culture & Employment;
Environment & Natural Resources; Industry, Tourism & Investment; Municipal & Community Affairs;
and Transportation.

How To Access
Access to much of the content on the GNWT Geospatial Portal and GNWT Geomatics website is controlled through login accounts.
There are different accounts available depending on what you wish to do as a user. The following is a list of accounts that can be
used to access specific content.
- Geospatial Portal Account - Used to access this website. Created here,
it can give you access to content otherwise unavailable. It gives you access to the server status,
and if you are a govenrnment user, government specific maps.
- GNWT Geomatics Account - Used to access this
website. Unfortunately we have not been able to integrate the accounts of these two websites yet and that site requires its own login.
With an account on that site you are able to access much of the SDW's downloadable content.
- ArcSDE Account - Some GNWT users have an ArcSDE account for direct ArcSDE access.
This is obtained through special request to the SDW administrator.
- ArcIMS Service Account for metadata - This account allows the upload of metadata to the Metadata Explorer.
Technical Stuff
- Your browser must support the use of cookies to create an account to login.
- Most of the portal has only been tested with Microsoft's Internet Explorer Version 6.0. Some testing has been done on Firefox 1.5.
- Some links on this site open new windows, if you have "popups" blocked these windows will not appear.
- Some of the image display pages require the use of javascript. To display these images you must have a java engine installed
and if prompted you must allow the javascript from ER Mapper to run. If you don't have a java engine installed there will be a link on the page that you can use to install one.
- Some of the data and maps on this site depend on other sites which, at any given time, may not be available.
- Check the "System Status" page for useful information on recently updated layers systems changes.
